Universal Systems of Martial Arts-Waving Hands Like Clouds, Combat Workshop with special guest Michael Xià Shifu.
Taijiquan is a difficult art to put into combat application when taught in a traditional setting. Taking years to develop heightened sensitivity and retraining one’s reactionary instincts is not a short road to success. But taking the mechanics from Taijiquan and studying them separate from the form and traditional backdrop, we can see a few key tools one can apply to any fight-game, martial art, or body mechanic skills. Focusing on one of these universal principles in Taijiquan, we will practice a cornerstone technique known as Cloud Hands, or “Waving Hands Like Clouds” or “Waving Hands Through Clouds.” This skill will give us a wall of defense and offense in combination, while setting up our techniques for the rest of our martial arts training. This skill will be useful for both martial arts, health, and self-defense, as we will study the mechanics, the alignments, and the application.
